Exceptional People Drive Our Success:
30 Selected To Receive Chairman Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.—Yellow Roadway Corp. experienced its most successful year in history in 2004 with record revenue and earnings. And while that success can be attributed to many factors, it simply would not have been possible without the contributions of thousands of exceptional people, says Bill Zollars, chairman, president and CEO.

Again in 2005, for the ninth consecutive year, some of those exceptional employees are honored as Chairman Award recipients, on the basis of their accomplishments in 2004. As in years past, honorees come from throughout Yellow Roadway Corp. That means that this year, for the first time, employees from Roadway Express, New Penn Motor Express Inc., and Reimer Express Lines Ltd. are included in the recognition program. They join employees from the Yellow Roadway corporate offices, Yellow Transportation, YRC Enterprise Services and Meridian IQ.

Core Values Are Key
Thirty employees earned Chairman Award recognition for 2004, having demonstrated one or more of the YRC core values:

  • exceeding customer expectations,
  • valuing people,
  • working safely,
  • good citizenship,
  • integrity and
  • teamwork

The core values enable Yellow Roadway operating companies to carry out the core purpose of the corporation, Zollars says, which is, "Making global commerce work by connecting people, places and information."

Among the 30 honorees are drivers, dock professionals, service center managers and others in operations support roles, information technology professionals, sales people, customer service representatives, accountants and project managers.

"We had a lot going for us in 2004 with a strong economy, tight capacity and a stable pricing environment," Zollars says. "But none of that would have mattered without a highly professional workforce that exceeds customer expectations, works as a team, and does it safely. We truly have the best people in the business, and they make a difference for us day in and day out."

Zollars Enjoys Meetings
The Chairman Award is especially rewarding for Zollars, he says, because it gives him an opportunity to meet and get to know high-quality, front-line employees. Thousands of YRC employees have a similar commitment to excellence, he says, and they make the company the best in the business.

"I’m exceedingly proud of the way we performed in 2004 and so far in 2005," Zollars says. "I just want to express my appreciation to everyone for their efforts, with a special thank you to those selected as Chairman Award honorees."
