Our People Make The Difference
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.—In an organization as large as Yellow Roadway Corp., it is impossible to provide the recognition that each employee deserves for their exceptional contributions, so Yellow Roadway does the next best thing with its Chairman Award program. "It's a great idea for any company to reward its people for their outstanding achievements," says Bill Zollars, Yellow Roadway Corp. chairman, president and CEO. "But its especially appropriate for us because as a service business, people really are our business." This year, the Chairman Award honors 17 employees from Yellow Roadway Corp., Enterprise Services, Yellow Transportation, Yellow Technologies, Meridian IQ, and Yellow GPS. Employees of Roadway Group will become part of the program next year, after one full year as part of the new Yellow Roadway Corp. These employees represent of hundreds of others who are equally deserving, Zollars says. They were honored recently at a special awards banquet and introduced to general office employees. While The Chairman Award continues a tradition of recognizing excellence, the criteria for selecting winners is now based on the company's core values. That is slightly different from criteria in previous years of customer service, revenue/cost reduction, ingenuity, heroism and community service. However, Zollars says, those qualities have significant overlap with Yellow Roadway core values, which are to exceed customer expectations, value people, work safely, demonstrate good citizenship, act with integrity and embrace teamwork. "The Core Values define who we are and what we stand for," Zollars says. "They are the values that allow Yellow Roadway to accomplish our business and corporate citizenship objectives. These are values that every Yellow Roadway employee should aspire to, and tying them to the Chairman Award is a great way to give these values more visibility in our organization." Chairman's Award winners and their guests receive an expense-paid trip to the general office. They also receive a check for $1,000. 2004 winners
